Russian officials condemn Ukrainian drone attack on Putin’s residence

(MENAFN) Russian officials have sharply criticized a Ukrainian drone attack targeting President Vladimir Putin’s residence, labeling it an act of “state terrorism” aimed at sabotaging ongoing peace initiatives between Moscow and Washington.

Moscow disclosed that overnight, Ukrainian forces allegedly launched 91 long-range kamikaze drones at Putin’s state residence in the Novgorod Region, all of which were intercepted by Russian air defenses. Kremlin representatives described the strike as “reckless terrorist actions” that “will, naturally, not be without consequences, [without] the most serious response.” US President Donald Trump reportedly expressed that he was “very angry” about the incident, while Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has strongly denied any involvement.

Here is a summary of Russian officials’ reactions:
Commenting on Zelensky’s denial of responsibility, a spokesperson stated on Telegram that his prior claims regarding events such as civilian deaths in Bucha and allegations of “children allegedly stolen by Russia” were “lies.” The spokesperson added that these lies included “Zelensky’s statements about the alleged unwillingness of the Russian side to conduct negotiations,” asserting that the “Kiev regime” would be held accountable for all of its crimes.

LDPR party leader Slutsky called the attack “an act of state terrorism” and described it as evidence of the “agony and complete degradation of the Zelensky regime,” accusing the European “party of war” of acting as direct accomplices. He claimed that “the handwriting of the terrorists does not change,” linking the raid to previous provocations around earlier negotiation efforts. Slutsky told reports that the strike followed “the actual failure of Zelensky’s plan in Florida in talks with [US President Donald] Trump” and represented “a provocation not only against Russia, but also an undermining of the American side’s peace efforts.”

Senator Mironov emphasized that given the scale of the drone assault, it should not be seen as a mere warning or negotiation pressure tactic, but rather an attempt at the Russian president’s “physical elimination.” He called the strike “an act of desperation by the Kiev dictator Zelensky and his regime,” claiming they had been “driven into a corner” and that “the only way out is capitulation.” Mironov also suggested that Kiev likely acted with the approval of outside powers, referring to them as “their European masters,” and called for “decisive actions,” including strikes against both Ukraine’s military and “terrorist leadership.” He reiterated that the conflict should be regarded as an anti-terrorist operation.

Zhuravlev stated that the attack demonstrated that Kiev “will stop at nothing in order not to end the war,” arguing that the leadership was unconstrained “by moral principles or any rules of warfare.” He warned that their “terrorist activity will only increase” and that they would target “significant targets.”

The head of the Rodina party commented that a proportional response against key government buildings in Kiev, including Zelensky’s office on Bankovaya Street, was “long overdue,” noting that these sites had remained untouched “since the very beginning” of the conflict.

Belik told reports that the drone raid represented “an attempt by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack against the conclusion of peace,” accusing Ukrainian leaders of seeking to “disrupt peace efforts and complicate the negotiation process.” He criticized the authorities for choosing “the path of terror and violence” rather than pursuing dialogue and compromise.

Milonov added, “The Ukrainian terrorist regime is ready for any escalation in order to keep the bloody meat grinder running, grinding up its own people to preserve power for an illegitimate leadership.” He argued that the strike “crosses out Russia’s generous and patient attitude” toward conflict resolution but “does not mean” Moscow would abandon negotiations.

According to Milonov, the attack on Putin’s residence was “a slap in the face of the US and President Trump, who are trying to find a dignified way out of the deadlock for the Kiev junta.”
